As the title of this particular piece suggests, I’m going to be talking a little about the lore of high school. High school is a subject that’s close to our hearts, isn’t it? Either we wistfully remember it as good times of a life, or we try to forget it like a traumatic event in our lives. There are those among us who can be doing both at the same time. Believe me, you can do both at the same time with ease. I’m within that group.
There’s one story I want to share with you right here and now about a pond. To a select group this is a story that is as important as the moon landing, as the Cuban Missile Crisis, the birth of Bieber… Yup, the pond incident is within that group of world events. Behind the science block (which no longer exists since the earthquakes) there was a little garden and at the centre of that garden was a pond. The pond was the crowning achievement of that garden. Sometimes I would go there with friends just to muck around and do stuff. Usually it wasn’t good stuff. With my friends we were always getting up to no good. Doing things the right way was no fun. One of our friends was pushed into that shallow pond that was poorly maintained. For years afterward a debate raged on with those that were there and those that were not; was this guy pushed or did he fall? Sides were taken and a near school civil war happened. Well, not really. It would be cool if that had happened but it didn’t, but we did talk about it.
If you had asked our friend 'Mick', he would’ve said that ‘Bob’ fell. Yes, we will call these guys in question ‘Mick’ and 'Bob'. It’s easier that way. 'Bob' would tell you that he was pushed. Only a couple of guys were there on that occasion. I wasn’t - I was somewhere else. In those days that was strange. When you're kids, you tend to live life through your friends. Duckman was there and he has said many times that 'Mick' pushed 'Bob'. I have no reason to doubt him on this matter so I trust him. Forever we refer to this as "The Pond Incident". That is the lore of high school. Well, one of them anyway, I suppose. I’ve written stories based on my crazy adventures with Duckman, 'Mick' and 'Woody'. These aren’t their real names. I don’t use real names here with the people that I know. Well, that’s not essentially true but with certain people I try to keep things on the down low. If I wrote a book on my actual adventures at high school with these goons, then this would make an interesting chapter. I only wish I’d been there when this had gone down. Would’ve been interesting to witness, I reckon.
Well, that’s all I've got for this time 'round. It’s been a pleasure, and as always, you bring a smile to my face. No, I really mean that. I love each and every one of you. Well, apart from you. Yeah, you in the diaper. Really. What is a dude in his 40’s doing wearing a man diaper with no pants? You can leave. No-one needs to see that. Apart from a big-nosed, big-stomached guy I know. He might enjoy that.
For the rest of you, head to the rest of the site, check out what Duckman’s put up. Things from now until January will be a little quieter than usual as we both seek to enjoy the holiday season a little bit. But rest assured of two things: One - neither of us will be drinking eggnog, and two - we will be back bigger and badder than ever.
One thing though, my next story, "Hunting Magic Man" will not go up until the New Year. I’m currently making my way through the first draft. I may make up for the lack of new material by releasing two stories simultaneously. I don’t know if we can do that, but I will try.
Until next time, keep it real, my homies.
