I seriously need to get myself a notebook, or something along those lines. All these ideas I get and then they’re gone! I’m getting to the age now when my mind isn’t as sharp or as focused as it once was. I need a notebook, or I was thinking maybe be one of those real cool kats and get myself a recording device and send little notes to myself like Captain James T. Kirk! “Captain’s Log, it’s… been… quiet…for…ages…” I could go on all day with Kirk. He’s a great source of material. Maybe Duckman and I will do a skit.
I’m not sure when this one will go online, but right here, right now, the people of Scotland are about to vote for independence (a few days late, but that's OK). I personally have strong connections to this country and right now I have some Scottish pirate metal playing in the background. Yes, you heard me right. Scottish pirate metal. Imagine Scotsmen with booze on a boat with instruments. Epic.
My feelings on how this vote will go are interesting. The last poll before the country goes to the ballot had the no group; the people that want Scotland to remain a part of the United Kingdom, sitting on 47%, with the yes group; the people that want Scotland to gain it’s independence, sitting on 41% and that leaves, hmm. I need to check. Wait here a moment while I get the calculator out... Ha-ha, 12%! I love technology! That’s a big number and more than enough to turn this the 'yes’ way. I personally think that the vote will go the no’s way. I suppose that would be the best possible outcome. There is a lot of risk at Scotland gaining independence. It also means the breakup of the most powerful country in the European Union, and I don’t need to remind anyone here of the troubles that a number of countries in the EU have had. In a way, Europe is surviving partially because of the United Kingdom.
In any case I hope this becomes a celebration of a great culture in the world. It really is an awesome country in its own right and this should be a celebration of that, shouldn’t it? Good luck to them. Just one more note I feel is important noting, the vote is open to anyone living in Scotland at the present time, which I feel is a little wrong. People like my dad, who is a Scotsman living abroad, can’t actually vote, which I feel isn’t right. This is his country, his home, or was and I feel that people like him deserve a say on the future. Anyway, moving along. Things are getting a little too serious for my liking.
Well, in a couple of days New Zealand goes to the polls, although that may have come and gone by the time you get to read this online. Rest assured, I hope that I will be elected to parliament with the dentist. We are going to change the system...well, maybe. Hopefully we can get a deal for propping up the government. Deals are always good. I watch those game shows on TV, so how hard can it possibly be? I can always sober the dentist up and let him do it.
Cheers
